Apple Announces PowerMac G5 Quad

Apple has released a new two-processor, dual-core PowerMac G5, with each running at 2.5GHz.

The top end machine sports the following:

  • Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors
  • 1.25GHz frontside bus per processor
  • 1MB L2 cache per core
  • 512MB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200)
  • 250GB Serial ATA hard drive
  • 16x SuperDrive (double-layer)
  • Three open PCI-Express expansion slots
  • NVIDIA GeForce 6600 with 256MB GDDR SDRAM
It may be the last PowerMac with PowerPC processors, but Apple's going out with a bang.

The Quad sells for $3299, but you can get the base model with a single dual-code G5 for $1999.
